PC has Berseria, Zestiria, Vesperia Definitive and Symphonia, of those i lile Symphonia the most.Ībyss. PS4 has Berseria, Zestiria ans Vesperia Definitive Edition, out of those I would probably recommend Berseria the most. Switch has Vesperia Definitive Edition only at this point What you get depends on what you play on tho. Story-wise I liked Symphonia and Abyss the mostĬombat-wise probably Berseria and Zestiria (I mean Amatization was pretty dope)īerseria has a pretty good story too, and Vesperia is is another fan-favorite (though I personally didn't connect with it much from a story-standpoint, it was pretty to look at with the celshaded stuff and has some fun characters). Hmmm from the ones I have played (which are all post-symphonia minus Xillia and Xillia 2 and Hearts R because those are still locked to PS3/VITA). The battle system's on the safe side, like Abyss, but it's solid. Tales of Vesperia has the best main character of them all, who's pretty pragmatic, in a very refreshing good way. The battle system is an evolution of Symphonia, in that it's a lot less clunky and more dynamic and fast. The main character is also very well developed. ![]() However, I thought it suffered from a story that's way too long with unnecessary detours and backtracking. Tales of the Abyss has one of the most elaborate art direction for its world and has great world building. The story's a bit too long, but as predictable as it is, it's well executed. ![]() Tales of Symphonia plays it safe with the battle system, but it's a very solid package all around. There's something sincere about the storytelling and the concise dialogue between the characters. It's a lot more of a story about childhood friends without you being reminded of it every time. It's beautiful, fun and the story's alright. Tales of Eternia (Destiny 2 in North America) is the best battle system on PS1, the first Tales game to have truly refined it. The story however is considered one of the better ones. Tales of Destiny 1 on PS1 is hard to recommend due to its high encounter rate and braindead AI. And the battle system of the "R" version of this game is serviceable. However, the world building and villains are well done. Tales of Hearts R is a shadow of its former self (DS Version), as it does away with the character progression, battle system and weapon enhancement system. Tales of Graces F has one of the most addictive battle systems Tales of Xillia 1 is alright, but you'll enjoy Xillia 2 a lot more if you've played it, so play both! In any case, I'm assuming you'll play English translated games, so here goes. In general, tales games are mostly all good, but there are a few stinkers: The earlier Tales games had shorter games but never felt like they stretched on for too long. They don't have the best stories, but they have the most fun battle systems.īut since the merge of both teams, I'm not sure anymore. My opinion's that the best Tales games are made by the team "Destiny", not the "Symphonia" team. It really depends on what flavor of anime you're into and what flavor of semi-wonky real time anime combat you're into. The Tales series is kind of difficult to just generally recommend games from, most of the series is different flavors of Fine™ with their own individual caveats. For the 2D games of which I haven't played any, the one that people really go to bat for is in Japanese only, (Destiny DC) if you're down for that. Legendia and Symphonia 2 have some interesting ideas going for them but are really not good, and I haven't played Hearts. I haven't played Berseria but have heard many positive things about it. It's pretty close to Graces in being intensely anime at least, and if you can get it cheap then give it a try if you want, but I'd advise against going into it with high expectations.Ībyss and Vesperia are mostly fine with some age caveats as well, the Xillia games are also fine, everyone has a different take on Zestiria so that's one I'd also just say check it out if it's cheap and you're interested but you might bounce off. ![]() Symphonia will always have a special place in my inner teen heart, but it's aged horribly and I'm not sure I would recommend it particularly to someone who enjoyed Graces's gameplay.
